Perigee Farm is situated on mostly forested acreage just outside the town of Elbe, WA on the Nisqually River.
While a small portion of the property is used for intensive planting, we also work to restore the forest and surrounding wetlands with the belief that each contributes greatly to our local ecosystem.
We acknowledge that the Nisqually {Squallay-absch} people are the traditional stewards of this land and aspire to uphold our responsibilities to it according to their example.
In 2015, we (Clare & Pete) moved to this land after getting lost on it with our real estate agent… twice.
We spent years observing the place and its patterns, eradicating some of the invasive species, and now have begun to implement a farm plan that seeks to rejuvenate the land while providing nourishment for us and our neighbors.
Our priority has been to improve the land which we are so fortunate to farm. We have planted thousands of native plants around the property to help restore this former timberland.
Our primary products are sustainably grown flowers and foliage, which are available through our CSA and for custom orders and events. In addition, we grow a variety of other annual and perennial plants including culinary and medicinal herbs, pollinator plants, and vegetables which are available at certain times of year.
Shortly after we moved in, we bought half a pallet of chicken feed from some friends. With the feed came a flock of hens and a very ornery rooster. We now now keep a small flock of birds for meat and eggs. They are also an important part of our grazing program, following the sheep around the grove disrupting pest cycles and adding fertility.
Through rotational grazing practices, we have been successful in managing invasive species while improving soil health and overall biodiversity.
